So you want to know about me? Let me start by telling you that from the age of 5, I was always fascinated by the human body. You may ask ‘how can anyone be interested in the human body from such an early age?’
Well my first encounter with the wonders of this body was when my sister, at the age of three, fell over and cut her knee. All I remember was the copious amount of blood that gushed out from her wound. I mean how much longer could she have bled without running dry? Was there some kind of a well of blood inside her?
From this incidence on, there were many like this (not necessarily involving my sister) that resulted in me doing a Bachelor’s in Pharmacology (University of Tyne and Wear), a Master’s in Toxicology and Pathology (University of Leicester) as well as a PhD in cancer at King’s College Hospital (London, UK).
It was only when I saw the impact of chemo and radiotherapy during my PhD and laboratory research days that I started to ask questions. From these questions my journey into naturopathy became not only an all consuming passion but a lifestyle change. I went onto acquire an MS in Clinical Human Nutrition at the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA.
I started my first clinical practice in Manhattan, New York, where shall we say ‘the rubber hit the road’. I worked with clients with various conditions from cancer through to issues with weight. I was astonished at how much implementing sound nutrition with some detoxing and cleansing helped my clients to live fuller and illness free lives.
Later in 2003 I experienced a major paradigm shift, I became a mother! I really don’t need to say anymore but I will. My son at 6 months of age developed eczema 24 hours after having a tea spoon of natural organic yoghourt, he had not yet been introduced to any form of dairy. Previous to this his health was ‘perfect’ as far as I could see. Naturally, I thought ‘another dairy free child born into this world’ …I saw many ‘dairy free’ children in clinic and had become a bit ‘immune’ to this ‘label’. However, I took him to a homeopath for his eczema as I was not satisfied with this so-called dairy intolerance (manifesting as eczema). She gave him a remedy for his birth trauma (will save you the details) and I left a bit baffled and unsettled but trusted her as I knew of her work. The following morning after having given the remedy my son’s eczema started clearing and had completely gone by day 5. 10 days later I re-introduced the organic natural yoghourt and to my utter amazement, no eczema. From there began my research and studies into homeopathy. A science and an art that I was previously very dubious about and vocally un-inhibited in sharing my anti-homeopathic views.
By 2003 I was living back in the UK and regularly flying over to New York as I continued to see my clients in Manhattan (also an excuse to see friends and family and of course shopping). Since then I have also gone onto study homotoxicology. Implementing all three approaches of naturopathic therapy has enabled me to really get to the ‘nitty gritty’ of each individual case I see in clinic with empowering out comes.
Currently I am a lecturer in nutrition and I run two practices, one in Harley Street, London & the other in Richmond in the UK. I use the skype system with my international clients. I also teach at various naturopathic colleges in the UK alongside bringing up two energetic boys.
I continue to help support people achieve optimal health and pursue their goal in life using my three pronged approach.
To great health!
Khush
